The AV Undercover series has inspired surprising transformations as artists put their spin on some of our favorite tunes. According to Consequence of Sound, Natalie Prass turned Slayer’s “Raining Blood” into “a jazzy lounger”, Screaming Females revamped Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off”  into “a punk anthem”, and They Might Be Giants infused ’90s R&B into Destiny’s Child’s “Bills, Bills, Bills”. Up next, Iron & Wine.

After recently announcing the release of an album of cover songs in collaboration with with Band of Horses’ Ben Bridwell and unleashing a short concert film, the singer-songwriter of folk rock reconstructed GWAR’s “Sick of You” into an unlikely rendition. Opposite worlds collide as Sam Bean reinterprets the thrash metal track into a soft-spoken and tender indie folk crossover. Seemingly nonchalant and effortless, the performance is redefining. The song’s original heavy metal imagery vanishes as Bean finger picks the chords, plucking gently as the lyrics embody new meanings within the melancholy styling.

Close your eyes and take a journey along an unexpected road with Iron & Wine:
